Gustavo Costas Aims for Fourth Title with Racing

Gustavo Costas, Racing's coach, has the chance to win his fourth cup with the 'Academy' ahead of the Clausura final where his team will face Estudiantes. According to Noticias Argentinas agency, Costas has one title as a player, the 1988 Supercopa Sudamericana, and two recent ones as a coach: the 2024 Copa Sudamericana and this year's Recopa Sudamericana. If he wins the final, the coach will lift his first trophy with the club and make history, tying Juan José Pizzuti and solidifying his place as the club's second most successful coach in the professional era. With a career and life linked to the 'Academia,' Gustavo Costas is dreaming and has a chance to lift a cup for the fourth time in the club's colors. Having come through Racing's youth ranks and also being the team's mascot during the successful years of 1966 and 1967, when Racing won the championship, the Copa Libertadores, and the Intercontinental Cup, Gustavo Costas debuted for the club's first team in 1981. Costas faced a relegation, the only one in the club's history, in 1983, but after two seasons in what was then called Primera B, he managed to return to the top category, defeating Atlanta in the playoff final with a 5-1 aggregate score. In the Recopa Sudamericana final, Racing showed no mercy to 'Fogao,' who arrived with some losses due to player sales. With 2-0 victories in both legs, with goals from Luciano Vietto and 'Maravilla' in the first and Matías Zaracho alongside Bruno Zuculini in the second, the 'Academia' secured its first star of 2025, which could be followed by another if the club wins the Clausura final.
